Sheep

The CEVA Animal Health product offer for sheep in Australia is focused on reproduction.

REPRODUCTION MANAGEMENT

CEVA is recognized as an expert in the field of small ruminants reproduction. Innovation has been the driver for CEVA when developing products for small ruminant veterinarians and producers. The use of melatonin (Regulin®) as a reproductive tool was one of the latest contributions of CEVA in this field.

CEVA has collaborated over the years with scientists and veterinary practitioners in increasing the knowledge in the field of sheep and goat reproduction. This has resulted in the publication of scientific papers in different journals. Regularly the company has been involved in educational programs that have contributed to expand that knowledge among small ruminant veterinarians. As part of those activities CEVA launched the website  www.reprology.com. The website gathers together all the data and publications available to the public and professionals on the subject of control of reproduction in cattle, sheep and goats.

REGULIN®  (melatonin implant for sheep)

Ewes have a seasonal reproduction rhythm that depends on the length of daylight. Sexual activity manifests itself, depending on the breed, as the days get shorter (autumn). REGULIN® is an implant that releases melatonin (a natural substance secreted by the brain during the night) progressively and at sufficiently high plasma concentrations for a period of 70 to 90 days to simulate the shortening of the days. The implant is positioned at the base of the ear and does not need to be removed as it is biodegradable). In ewes, it induces oestrus and ovarian activity 50 to 70 days after it is implanted. In rams the use of the implant increases sexual activity during the anoestrus season and it increases the quality and quantity of the sperm.
